The Passion that is Riding...Who Feels It? +The Topic of Quitting.

Riding has really changed my life. Before I had a scooter, I was only staying at home and played football with some friends once in a week. I'm so happy that I picked up a scooter. Most of my friends also ride scooters. I would have never met my buddy Ney in Spain, if I wouldn't ride. It's always fun to pull some creative stuff, even if you have no motivation to do it. When you start riding, then you just forget everything else. I'm so stoked for this year, because I'm maybe going to Spain and on some few more trips.

Riding for me has always been a way to connect with others, I rarely ride alone, but as time passed by, more and more of my friends have quit, so I rarely ride now, and when I do I try to make it an excursion. I probably will not quit for a very long time, but without local people to ride with, I lack motivation to ride.

For me riding is all about enjoying myself and expressing myself. I get to scooter with other people who scooter a few times a year, but I have plenty of friends who skate. I just love riding my scooter, it totally changes you.

I haven't ridden in a long long time due to a back injury and school, but to me it's just about enjoying yourself and enjoying your time with your friends.

i feel the same, but after no riding, riding alone is still better

I have to say, for the 3 years of me riding scooter, my reflexes have gotten better and better, my actual health (except of riding injuries) is mostly perfect, I've quit smoking because of riding, I met nearly all of my friends whilest riding.

The only neghative point is: the money, I'm allways broke now :D

But all in all it changed my life to the better.

I haven't ridden for nearly three months. About two years ago everyone rode. We would all meet at our local skatepark like every weekend and ride from like morning until it was dark. Slowly people began to quit or go into other sports like skating. Since less people were around I began to ride less and less. When everyone rode I was improving everyday but as I began to ride less my skills depleted. Now I am really bad. I can't go things anymore like stairs, if I'm slightly scared I just won't do it. So because of this I don't feel motivated to ride. I'll go to my local now and then but I don't feel the same passion for it anymore. I don't think I'll stop completely, one day it might come back.

This is the worst feeling ever, when someone you used to ride with all the time quits one day. I really hope that my buddies keep riding. Are there any decent riders left?

Tell them to ride street with you and that you could find some new spots and just mob the streets. I got a friend back into the game as I told him, that he's doing nothing with his free time, just sitting around and playing xbox. Sorry for my bad english, dudes.

Nothing but passion keeps me in this sport. I found some stuff from 2004 when I was both skating and picking up riding scooters, and realized I've been riding for pretty much 10 years now. It was really hard in the beginning, parts were pretty much impossible to get here in Croatia so I reinforced and fixed everything I had and it was totally worth it.

Now, 10 years after my first pushes, no matter how beat up I come home from a session, it still puts a smile on my face. It's been one of the few constants in my life. People came and left, friends turned into strangers, strangers into friends, but the kick ass feeling I get the moment I'm about to ride, be it streets, parks or my favorite, vert ramps... it didn't change in 10 years, and I hope it won't change for another 10.

The key not to quit is to get connections, both local and international. And unlike Facebook, forums like these here help alot as long as you're active. Back when i started riding i had just a few buddies to ride with and all of them who i originally started riding with in the '04-06 era, have all quit for one reason or another as of the past 5 years, so by having those international contacts, you get to meet your internet friends, share accomodation with them and experience life and culture in other countries through the eyes of their local riders, not through the eyes of your usual tourist guide. Plus, by being able to ride new urban architecture (aka spots) you haven't experienced yet opens up a whole new level of tourism. That's my favorite kind of tourism.

As long as you create and preserve connections, you'll always have someone to share your passion with.
As Barney Stinson from HIMYM series says: "Whatever you do in this life, it's not legendary, unless your friends are there to see it."

I like this. Having gone to NYC without my scooter three times was always so boring and painful. As much as I got to do some really cool things, it was immensely painful to see wonderful spots that I've always wanted to sesh. My parent will never understand why I was always so angry and bored in the city because they don't see the world through the eyes that we have developed since scootering.

Same kinda topic: when did you guys stop feeling odd riding your scooter? I feel like a goofball haha
i dont think about what other people think when i'm riding my scooter.
thats because your in a city with a scooter scene, plus, your better than the average rider. it turns out, people get really mad if you break into a sewage ditch to get some clips. very very mad. if people don't see some mad crazy shit out of you at the park, you get snaked and yelled at and have knifes pulled on you. whenever im not in a park, or a good spot, i hate riding. the looks i get from people, and the things i get yelled at me are so asinine its mindboggling.

i go to the park every weekend and im the only scooter rider in my town and i have never had one rude or asinine yelled at me.... everyone is cool the worst thing that has happened is that a guy said i waxed the rail to much... and i did i have had people yell things at me from their cars when they drive by but they are never ruder than "SCOOTER!"

most people would say shit to me and that because of scootering, but then i got on o22y and then MGP, which then it all died down and they probably figured something like "hey he's getting something out of it", and i was and still am the first to get something out of riding a scooter in Hong Kong, which is hella G

i guess people respect me now for it but i still dont really like riding and doing tricks infront of people, mainly because then i'd feel as if im trying to show off or something but yeah
