Assuming your compression system is installed correctly that means your headset is f---ed up. Sounds like you are missing the cone that goes in the top cap to keep it centered.

I think the only time you should push mongo is if you are riding switch and you haven't gotten the opposite footwork down yet but even then it still looks kind of gross.
